Fire/flame deaths 2003 (Northern Ireland 2002):
There were 487 unintentional deaths due to fire/flame in Britain and Ireland,

Scotland (1.2 per 100,000) had a significantly higher age-standardised mortality
rate, and the East of England (0.3) had a significantly lower rate, compared
to the England average (0.6). The Northern Ireland (1.0), Republic of Ireland
(0.9) and Wales (0.9) rates did not differ significantly from England.
Fire/flame deaths 1996 to 2003 (to 2002 in Northern Ireland):
The number of unintentional deaths due to fire/flame in Britain and Ireland
decreased by 22% from 1996 (626 deaths) to 2003.
The age-standardised mortality rate decreased in most regions between 1996
and 2003, with a reduction of 24% in Wales and significant reductions in the
Republic of Ireland (-56%), Scotland (-28%), England (-20%) and the East of
England (-61%). The Northern Ireland rate increased by 82% but this was not
statistically significant. |
