Production of data and analysis

Numbers and standardised rates were generated separately for each country by the following members of the Injury Observatory:

• Scotland – Information Services Division (ISD) Scotland
• England and Wales (year of occurrence) – South West Public Health Observatory (SWPHO)
• Wales (year of registration) – Collaboration for Accident Prevention and Injury Control (CAPIC)
• Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland – Ireland and Northern Ireland’s Public Health Observatory (INIsPHO)

The South West Public Health Observatory collated and analysed the information, and other members also contributed to the commentary.

Note that, unfortunately, the Association of Public Health Observatories cannot obtain disaggregated England data for years prior to 1995 from the Office for National Statistics, and 1995 data has only just been released so could not be included in time for this analysis. Data for the other countries is available from the early 1980s onwards and can be viewed in the individual regional data files.
