Suicides 2003 (Northern Ireland 2002):

There were 4,668 deaths due to suicide in Britain and Ireland, split as follows:

Republic of Ireland 497 North East 169 East of England 337
Northern Ireland 174 North West 453 London 404
Scotland 561 Yorks and Humber 324 South East 540
Wales 290 East Midlands 265 South West 342
England 3,146 West Midlands 312  

The Republic of Ireland (12.6 per 100,000), Scotland (10.8), Northern Ireland (10.4), and Wales (9.9) had significantly higher age-standardised rates of suicide, and London (5.2) a significantly lower rate, compared to the England average (6.0).

Suicides 1996 to 2003 (to 2002 in Northern Ireland)

The number of suicides in Britain and Ireland increased by 1% from 1996 (4,613 deaths) to 2003. There was a significant increase in mortality rate in Wales (25%) and a significant reduction in England (-6%). However, no individual English region observed a significant reduction. There were rate increases in Northern Ireland (17%) and the Republic of Ireland (10%) and a rate reduction in Scotland (-3%) but these changes were also not statistically significant.
