Making the Link is networking site and knowledge hub for people working to prevent accidental injury to children and young people across England. The site is open to anyone in policy, frontline children's services, or the voluntary sector working to reduce accidents and injuries to children and young people. The tool is developed by the Child Accident Prevention Trust and supported by the DCSF.

UK cities should have more 20mph speed zones, as they have cut road injuries by over 40% in London, a study claims. ENHANCING VIOLENCE PREVENTION THROUGH ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT DATA SHARING IN THE NORTH WEST In July 2009 the Department for Health put together a national bidding programme to provide funding for partners in the government’s Tackling Knives Action Programme (TKAP) areas to enhance or improve the sharing of data between accident and emergency departments (AEDs) and local partners. On behalf of Government Office North West and local partners, the Centre for Public Health at Liverpool John Moores University successfully bid and secured funds to enhance AED datasets and develop faster, routine data sharing between AEDs and Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs). HELMETS NOW MANDATORY FOR PLAYERS OF HURLING – A UNIQUELY IRISH SPORT Hurling is a popular team sport on the island of Ireland. The game is fast-paced and played a curved stuck and a small ball. To increase player safety, the game’s regulatory body, the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), has made it compulsory for all players to wear a helmet with a facial guard. The rule was initially piloted with players at younger age levels. The GAA said: “we have seen a reduction in the number of serious facial injuries at these grades thanks to the compulsory use of helmets in games and training and we would hope to see the same trend at senior level.” The rule change commenced on 1 January 2010 and applies to training sessions and matches at all age levels. ..........................................................................
