Analysis of inpatient admissions data for injuries

The following analysis has been produced by the Injury Observatory and compares European Aged Standardised Rates (EASRs) across the 5 IOBI countries and 10 English SHAs for all injury related emergency inpatient admissions, serious injury inpatient admissions and hip fracture injury inpatient admissions. For Wales, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland the inpatient data used were hospital spells from 2006, whilst for Scotland, England and the 10 English SHAs the inpatient data used were hospital spells from 2006/07. The population data used were 2006 mid-year estimates. Only emergency inpatient admissions with an ICD10 external cause code in the range V01 – Y36 were included. Injuries were identified by the presence of ICD10 codes in the range S000 – T739, T750 – T759, T780 – T789.

The analysis undertaken allows differences to be observed across IOBI for all injuries and between various intent and external cause groupings.
