WORLD: BURN AWARENESS WEEK 2015

Burn Awareness Week, observed during the first full week of February, is designed to provide an opportunity for burn, fire and life safety educators to unite in sharing a common burn awareness and prevention message in our communities. The Burn Prevention Network joined with the America Burn Association on focusing on getting the word out about scald prevention.

 

 

UK: NEW INVENTION PROVIDES PROTECTION AGAINST HAIR STRAIGHTENER BURNS AND HOUSE FIRES

CAPT has teamed up with AOK-Design to raise awareness of the high number of accidental burns from hair straighteners and the risk of house fires from hair appliances left switched on.

AOK-Design have created the DAIO™ (pictured), a stylish but safe way of storing hair straighteners, curling tongs and styling wands

 

SCOTLAND: KEEPING SCOTLAND’S OLDER PEOPLE SAFE FROM FIRE IN 2015

Scotland’s Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) have released adverts on how to protect yourself and older people in the community from preventable house fires. The SFRS has urged the pubic to arrange Home Fire Safety Visits  where local firefighters will come out to the property to check for fire hazards and to provide advice

 

UK: KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE AT HOME – NEW GUIDE OFFERING ACTIVITIES AND ADVICE ON HOME SAFETY

A major resource from the Keeping Children Safe at Home project is now freely available for downloading from http://tiny.cc/kcspage.  The resource Injury Prevention Briefing: Preventing unintentional injuries to the under fives: a guide for practitioners offers activities and advice focusing on preventing falls, scalds, fire-related injuries and poisonings.

The Briefing includes sections dealing with general prevention issues such as the link between accidents and deprivation, and evaluation methods; eleven activities to be run with parents; and background information about each of the injury topics.

GO SAFE SCOTLAND – NEW SAFETY TOOL FOR CHILDREN

An interactive safety resource for primary school children in Scotland, called Go Safe Scotland, has been launched in Glasgow.  This resource will help to deliver key safety messages and support the aims of the Curriculum for Excellence.  Many partners have been involved throughout the creation of the resource and RoSPA in Scotland is pleased to be involved with this great initiative.

NEW FIRE SAFETY RESOURCE FOR LANDLORDS

Firemark’ is a programme developed by DSFRS that will provide fire and rescue services and their partners with information to support landlords through a short interactive training and advice session.
